Blogging with SharePoint 2007 – not that easy

Tags:

Currently we know that it is not that easy to have all functionalities on SharePoint with forms authentication. Especially the office integration gave us a little bit to think – the only official information is to use the Always sign me in functionality to get access with the office programs.

But did you know that there is a difference between Win XP and Vista? Of course it's only a small thing you have to know but after all our clients runs on Vista we didn't figure it out that the no availability of the office integration is a client problem. After a while we checked it out that (thanks Peter Pallierer) that the standard security of vista doesn't allow the saving of cockies – so you only have to put your sharepoint site into the trusted zones and the office integration also works in vista (in winxp the office integration works without the trusted zone stuff).

The last thing which even don't work for us with forms authentication is the automatic picture posting functionalities (we tested with Word 2007 and Live Writer) – maybe someone else solved this? Or we have to write our own picture provider?!?

10 minutes later we found a workaround :)

Make a networkshare to your picture library:

And then modify your blog account like that:

Happy Blogging…

But you need to do more! commented on Tuesday, 7-Aug-2007
Florian's descripton is very good but one small thing is missing: You need to switch OFF the User Account Control (UAC) that is on by default in Vista... Hope Microsoft will do something about that !?
